Value for Money

I recently got involved in helping to prepare a workshop on enhancing Value for Money in procurement.

Funny how the complexities of the topic jump out at you when you try to make a few slides – what you may have thought was a straightforward concept becomes a minefield of definitions and concepts, just like with Cloud Computing!  I mention it because I think it would have made a nice topic for Blogging Idol.

Too bad the contest is over, right?

I'm a Blogging Idol enthusiast who also does consulting for a living. I began my career as a railway data communications engineer. After working for a bank for 7 years, I took up the consulting challenge and I still find it challenging! I try to keep in touch with a lot of different I&IT topics but I'm usually working in areas that involve service management and procurement. I'm back into ISO standards development - in the area of cloud computing (ISO JTC1/SC38). I'm starting to get more interested in networking history, so I guess I'm starting to look backwards as well as forwards! My homepage is http://www.concon.com

I agree on both points. I like how a relatively simple topic can become engaging – especially when there are others to discuss it with.

On the money thing – I tell clients and students “cost is not the same as value”. Sometimes it takes a while but usually they get it with some examples.

But yes, it is too bad this is all over Don. I wish I had started on it sooner. I had lots of ideas once I got rolling. But c’est la vie. Still it was fun!

    Yes it was!!

Cost N= value is the starting point, but then what is value becomes the question.
