I was reading the Saturday Toronto Star and came across this article by Don Tapscott  - The Upside of Sharing.

I thought this article was of interest given our examinations of BYOD, big data and cloud computing.  All of these have an impact on and are impacted by the latest thinking on privacy.

I also enjoyed his comments on areas where revealing private information may be useful and worthwhile (in communities of like-minded people, for example).  In my case, I have no issues revealing that I am a fan of the Beach Boys and am a member of some related mailing lists.  But sharing medical experiences is also a very useful idea!

His comments about continuous recording of events also play into the big data area – oreven beyond big data into huge data.  He noted that Microsoft has a research program called MyLifeBits.

Makes you wonder if searching, filetring and metadata (such as certifying date and authenticity) won’t become bigger and bigger areas of interest.

All in all, an interesting read and in my view a fit with our discussions on Blogging Idol.

I'm a Blogging Idol enthusiast who also does consulting for a living. I began my career as a railway data communications engineer. After working for a bank for 7 years, I took up the consulting challenge and I still find it challenging! I try to keep in touch with a lot of different I&IT topics but I'm usually working in areas that involve service management and procurement. I'm back into ISO standards development - in the area of cloud computing (ISO JTC1/SC38). I'm starting to get more interested in networking history, so I guess I'm starting to look backwards as well as forwards! My homepage is http://www.concon.com
